Red alert screen popped up on my computer. Was slightly alarmed, thought I'd clicked on something dangerous. Read the whole message but was immediately alerted to the fact they cannot spell "response" - at the foot of the message it is spelt "responce". The message was also written in very poor English. Clearly a scam.

complete scam! trying to get you to call their number! Dont!! As previous posters have suggested - press ctrl + alt +del on your computer - this will bring up task manager - go to chrome or explorer or wherever this 'critical' message came up on - right click on the programme and press 'end task' - the programme will close - and the messsage will disappear - then start up your programme again - and everything will be fine - time wasting scammers -

To close the message down without having to resart your computer: Press CTRL-ALT-DEL, choose the Task Manager option and then select the programme you want to close down, i.e. Firefox, Chrome, Explorer etc.

I had the RED PAGE , and called the number ,all seemed plausible until the request for payment ,then I 'fell in ' and hung up.Tried calling the number next day INVALID ! ,same for 01624891414 they had rung me back on . BASTARDS. I was also sceptical because during the week someone hacked into my emails and sent an email ,from me !, to my accounts manager telling her to make payments to certain bank accounts .

SCAM!!!! Sudden red alert on computer screen that Microsoft Edge had been damaged and personal data at risk of being stolen. Rang the number - man talking with indian accent presenting himself as Microsoft engineer - repeating my computer was damaged if I did not install security software, pay Β£260 and gave credit card details. Asking to allow him to remotely work on my computer. I just hung up, ran my antivirus, everything working fine.

Had the red screen flash suddenly onto my laptop whilst working. It said that firewall had stopped someone trying to get personal details and to ring 0800 069 8683 but couldnβt get screen to close so switched off laptop. Didnβt ring number but Was a bit scared but decided to google the number and confirmed others had had this come through so relieved it was a scam. Forwarded details to City of London police. Do NOT ring number and do NOT allow anyone to link into your computer.

Had the same alert on my laptop. After checking the 'Who called me?' site and reading the reviews, rang the number repeatedly from a 'number withheld' phone intending to string them along and then laugh at them, but line is constantly engaged. Have they made their killing and gone away?
